Station 45020
U-GLOS Station 45020 was first deployed July 2005 by the University of Michigan's Ocean Engineering Laboratory (OEL) in partnership with Michigan Sea Grant, Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians, Northwestern College Water Studies Institute, The Great Lakes Maritime Academy, and Elmer's Crane & Dozer Inc. The original monitoring buoy was replaced in 2006 with the Aanderaa buoy that is currently deployed. This upgrade was made possible through partnerships with DTE Energy and Alliance for Coastal Technologies, a NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) sponsored program. Station 45020 measures wind speed and direction, air temperature, solar radiation, water surface temperature, wave height and period, and current direction and speed. The data is logged internally as well as transmitted in ten minute intervals to the internet via cellular modem. View a video of the deployment here
